Let God Prevail (Especially in the Small Things)

Heidi Boyer

I struggle daily with a myopic perspective on life. Especially right now when I can worry so much about things happening in the news around the world, family members, uncertainty and things I cannot control. I am comfortable focusing on the daily routine and what is right in front of me. This myopic perspective prevents me from growing and becoming who the Lord needs me to be. How do I “expand my perspective and seek the eternal?” President Nelson answered my question in his talk: I need to be willing to let God prevail in my life.

And how do I let God prevail in my life? “it takes both faith and courage to let God prevail. It takes persistent, rigorous spiritual work to repent and to put off the natural man through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. It takes consistent, daily effort to develop personal habits to study the gospel, to learn more about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and to seek and respond to personal revelation.”

I have found that as I take the opportunity to do the small and simple things the Lord has asked me to do such as study the scriptures, set goals, listen and respond to personal revelation it helps me see clearly in an eternal perspective and allows me to feel the love of my Heavenly Father.

I find it interesting that our prophet guides us on how we can let God prevail in our lives and then encourages us to study our scriptures with the intent to make a list, ponder and watch for “all that the Lord has promised He will do for covenant Israel.” He has asked us to focus on the blessings, promises, and miracles.

President Nelson said, “as you choose to let God prevail in your lives, you will experience for yourselves that our God is “a God of miracles.”
I know that as we choose to follow our prophet by letting God Prevail in our lives we will be able to expand our perspective, see ourselves as God sees us, and experience miracles in our lives.
